Hi! My name is Walker Guthrie and I welcome you to my sports card checklist pages. I live in Colorado and I consider this the second best place in the world to ski. Besides collecting cards, as you might guess, I also love to ski, so living here in Colorado is just perfect for that. Winter Park is one of my favorite resorts, and they normally average around 360-365 inches of snow per year. Of course, during the ski season, the interest in the deep stuff on the slopes might also mean a few delays from me when making trades during those snowy months. I hope you understand.
In fact, you should understand that I'm a person who loves to sift through boxes and find cards, and get them sent out to you, but I'm absolutely TERRIBLE about putting them back away and / or acknowledging what you send to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm as giddy as a kid in a candy (Card?) store when a puffy or an envelope arrives, but, that's just the point. I'll "sit" on that package or envelope for nearly ever, so I can "savor the flavor," of what might be inside, for as long as possible. So, the point here, is that I'm very happy to trade with you and find some hits for you, but I'm probably going to be slow at opening your package back to me. No big deal; I love everything that comes in, and I LOVE to find a puffy in the box, but I'm just not going to be turbo lightning about ripping open your package and telling the world about it. I'll fall asleep with your package on my pillow faster than I'll open it. I know, I know, I'm weird.
I started both skiing and collecting in the sixties but it's still up for debate which I do better. I credit my brother Scott for helping me rekindle my interest in the card collecting hobby in the late 1980's, after I had pretty much given it up for fifteen + years. We are some of those "lucky kids" whose parents did NOT throw our cards away after we graduated from school and moved away from home. Unfortunately, like a lot of kids back then, we "played" with our cards back then, using them in bicycle spokes, rubber-banding them together and we kept them in shoe boxes, so the condition of many of them is not the best. In fact, a couple of my favorite cards from those days stayed in the back pocket of my jeans for much of the summer, so they are "well loved." Wrinkled, creased, and a few even survived going through the laundry several times. Try doing THAT with today's "plastic coated," UV-PVC junk! <smile> ...and, to help show you what kind of a collector I am, those beat up and worn out cards are STILL some of my all time favorites to this day! Coated inserts be damned, give me that old fashioned cardboard!
